The Singapore Scout Association
I missed the first introductory session as I was still in Terengganu releasing turtle hatchlings, but without fail, attended the one next one that Jeff presented about our reefs. Unfortunately I'm unable to attend the rest as all my SSEAYP trainings also fall on Thursday nights...
The "Guides of Singapore Shores (GSS) Workshop" is a collaboration among the Blue Water Volunteers (BWV), The Leafmonkey Workshop and wildsingapore with Supporting Partner, The Singapore Scout Association. This is a series of intensive workshops that covers all the popular shore ecosystems, and also includes a field session. It focuses on developing and learning guiding techniques in order to better raise awareness about our shores.
Each session begins with an hour of introduction to the framework issues and Q&A. Following which, the participants will be divided into small groups. The bulk of the time (two hours) is allocated to small-group workshops facilitated by experienced shore guides to brainstorm guiding techniques, share and learn with one another. Everyone in the group will have to role-play and act out different scenarios. Sure cracks everyone up.
The schedule of the workshops is as follows:
8 July 2010 (Thu): Introduction to Intertidal Guiding
15 July 2010 (Thu): Reefs and Coral Rubble
22 July 2010 (Thu): Rocky Shore and Coastal Forest
29 July 2010 (Thu): Sandy Shore and Seagrass Meadow
5 August 2010 (Thu): Mangrove animals and plants
15 July 2010 (Thu): Reefs and Coral Rubble
22 July 2010 (Thu): Rocky Shore and Coastal Forest
29 July 2010 (Thu): Sandy Shore and Seagrass Meadow
5 August 2010 (Thu): Mangrove animals and plants
The sessions are held at The Singapore Scout Association from 7pm to 10pm.
Having just attended the reef session by Jeff, it was undeniable that everyone had so much fun and laughter. And that's the best part of it - ya learning valuable knowledge and techniques while having tons of fun. This is only possible cause of the wonderful facilitators (who happen to be a wacky bunch also) and the participants who are daring enough to jump on the wagon and join the wacky bunch. Hahaha!
I'm definitely looking forward to the other updates on WildSingapore's shore blog of the remaining workshops since I'm unable to attend them. All the Scouts who have already been attending the workshop, make sure you continue still! I promise you that you will enjoy the field session eventually. Cause that's how I fell in love with Singapore's shores and the people who protects them!
